Clinical Interests

Deirdre is an experienced psychologist who has extensive experience supporting children, adolescents and their families. She has a specific interest in anxiety and behavioural disorders in children and a focus on the diagnosis and intervention of those children with autism spectrum disorders. She has sought training in the United Kingdom and the USA in order to provide current evidence based interventions. Deirdre has also specialised in supporting young people experiencing depression, anger issues and friendship difficulties.

As a result of Deirdre’s experiences in educational settings she has strong interest in social difficulties, bullying and learning issues that may exist within school settings. Deirdre works closely with schools and parents to ensure the best outcomes for young people.

Background and Experience

Deirdre is a fully registered psychologist (AHPRA) and has been a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) for 20 years. Deirdre commenced her career as a teacher before completing a BA (Social Science) at Monash University. She then completed postgraduate study in Child & Adolescent Psychology at the University of Melbourne. Her Masters in Educational Psychology was completed at the University of Melbourne. Deirdre is a recognised supervisor of provisionally registered psychologists.

Deirdre has worked as a psychologist with the Catholic Education Office and at St Kevin’s College, Toorak. She has been in private practice for over fifteen years providing counselling and assessments. She has also implemented programs for children and their families to manage anxiety, develop social skills and educate parents and delivers professional development for primary and secondary schools.

Deirdre is registered provider of Focused Psychological Strategies (Medicare) and Helping Children with Autism (FaHCSIA) to provide treatment intervention to eligible children.

Practice Philosophy

Deirdre is committed to supporting children and their families and is able to quickly develop rapport with young people. She has a particular interest in working with children who are experiencing emotional, social and academic difficulties. Deirdre offers practical strategies and programs that are tailored to meet the needs of the child and their families. Her experience in the educational sector allows her to work collaboratively with schools and other health professionals.

Deirdre is a mother to three young adults and understands the challenges that can present for young people and their families.
